What Is an Alternate Juror?

An alternate juror is a member of a jury selected to replace a regular juror if the regular juror becomes unable to fulfill their duties before or during deliberations.

Alternate jurors are chosen in the same manner as regular jurors and are present throughout the trial, observing the proceedings and evidence, but they do not participate in the final deliberations unless called upon to replace a regular juror.
